Jeanne Limmer

Jeanne began offering dance classes in 1983, utilizing any space with an acceptable floor that she could find. Jeanne traveled to Fryeburg, Freedom, Jackson and Conway with portable PVC barres strapped to her car and a boom box in hand. Town halls, community centers, school gyms and Grange halls were the sites where children tapped, pliéd, and showed their sunshine, inspired by Jeanne and she, in turn, was inspired by them. Thus the circle of life and the reciprocity of creativity is cultivated. Under the direction of the Pequawket Music & Arts Association a strong dance program developed in Fryeburg where a studio was kept going by Jeanne for almost 10 years. The present studio was built in 1986 and dancers traveled to North Conway and/or Fryeburg for classes. Axis Dance Company was formed in 1991 and the Branch was opened in 2010. The Dance Center and Axis have participated in many community events over the past 35 years and entered into various collaborations that have resulted in providing not only quality entertainment but spiritual inspiration and an opportunity for many young people throughout the valley to grow.

Jeanne has extended her teaching through the NH State Council of the Arts along with the AANNH as a rooster Artist for Arts In Education bringing movement and dance to schools and communities through the state. She was an adjunct professor at the White Mountain Community College in Berlin where she taught an “Introduction to Modern Dance” course for 2 semesters.

In 2017 Jeanne was chosen to be one of the teaching artist for Experience Arts, through a 2 year grant with the AANNH and Life Time Arts Inc. The 8 week “Bodies In Motion” program was held for people 55 and over up in Haverhill and Littleton. “Dancers of the 3rd stage” as Liz Lerman writes.

Jeanne shares her time and talents with many but her husband Peter, sons Trevor and Lucas, and beloved dog are her mainstays. In all of her spare time she enjoys tending her gardens, exploring the forest, and continuing on her quest of finding inspiration in the art of everyday living.
